How do you cook the rice? What water/rice ratio?
I'd have loved to come to the BBQ, but I'm afraid I'm heading off to the US for a week on the 16 so I can't come. :(
aww, we'll miss you not being at the bbq. We'll be doing a mini-smoker out on the patio if the weather is nice that day (not wet or excessively windy). Rice: our rice pot of 2.5 years just died, in fact, it died in the middle of cooking a batch of 800ml sushi rice. That batch had to be tossed. Now for the last 3 batches, I have been using the induction cookplate and my high quality BK stainless 3 liter pot. for 10 rolls of sushi, I need 800 ml of dry rice, rinsed, and I cook it with 900 ml of water. I find that a 1:1 ratio leaves the rice a tiny bit undercooked with the induction setup. When I did a half batch, this also undercooked, so if you want to make 5 rolls of sushi, try it with 400ml of dry rice and 550-600ml water. I also got a 10 kilo sack of rice from Amazing Asian in Utrecht, this rice for 18,50 is the same quality as the single kilos I was buying from Toko, but at less than half the price. All the supplies at AA were cheaper, but of the same quality. I also highly recommend the Yamasa soy sauce you see pictured, either the sashimi soy sauce or the sushi soy sauce (same type of bottle, different label). This is FAR more enjoyable than the standard Yamasa or Kikoman on sushi, but also about twice the price. SO, after the rice is rinsed, it goes in at the ratio indicated above, and then let to cook until there is moisture but no sitting water in the bottom of the pan. I turn off the heat at that point, and let stand with no lid for about 3 minutes. Then I add the sushi vinegar, sugar, and salt. Those proportions are listed on the vinegar bottle, I have been using mizkan vinegar with excellent results. Cool the rice uncovered for at least 20 minutes before rolling. Let me know how yours turns out!
Awesome. So your rice to water ratio is much lower than mine, I tend to go for 4/5 rice/water.
Hopefully I'll get to try your sushi another time. :)
*checks how much is left on the sushi soy sauce* ^_^ Think I'll need to take another bottle :)
-doh-, took me a few takes to realize the bbq thing is 16 -may-, not april :) Which is highly logical anyways, since it's a day off mine :D
Sounds like fighting for Parking Spaces on that weekend :P Germans first :P
LOL! I just noticed that pecker power sauce I got ya in Austin :)
his sauce might not taste very good, but damn if he's not sexy! Cute too :) And yes, I posed that bottle, when I was figuring out what I did or did not want to include in the countertop photo.
*grins* it is a hot bottle. :)
OOHhhhhhhhhh ! I remember your Sushis !They where indeed delicious ! }:D
I can certainly ponder dropping by. But I have a few things to consider, such as my allergies and if I will still have a job (and the car that goes with it) by then.
So, we'll see!
Well, as with last time, most time can perhaps be spent out on the patio, in the fresh air away from the dane hair. Also, I will be giving Danger a calming medication, so he should be stashed upstairs, that means 2 dogs down, and Minnie is quite calm. We'd certainly love to have you by, and mass transit, while time consuming, is fairly close by.
I'd love to stop by.. but I'm in Chicago :(
awww, that is a bit far. Though, flights are still inexpensive in may! They don't go nuts until late july/august this year :) AMS Schiphol is only 35 miles from our house...
Vegan! YAY *suddenly wants to have your puppies*
vegan, yup! As for having my puppies, we'll certainly give it a go ;)
My current repertoire of dishes includes: Minestrone soup Sundried Tomato Hummus (houmous) heavy on the garlic Pasta marinara arrabiata Burritos (beans, rice, chipotle tabasco, guacamole, salt, margarine, diced tomato) Salad Pasta Salad Sushi (as pictured) Stir fry with fried salt&pepper tofu, plus fried eggplant (hey, it doesn't have to be HEALTHY) Fresh cut potato, also fried and salted And some various other staple items to make it easy on me.
I have a recipe for vegan brownies that I rarely make any more, since I am trying to avoid sweets, but they come out pretty nice.
Now, is it odd that I, a vegan, feed all my pets nothing but meat? The dogs get raw meat, the snakes get raw rat (ratsicles from the freezer)... No, not odd, I am not a conscience vegan, I just find meat revolting as a food stuff, and the no dairy/eggs part is easy, I hate being overweight. It's a discipline. And the sushi makes it much easier, I must say. Another otter fur I know wrote in a journal that "sushi is soul repair food" - I can definitely relate. Wasabi is a mind altering substance :)
That food sounds amazing and almost worth flying there for... plus I'd been watching to catch up with hyperx. *Looks at BA free flight voucher and drools over S & P tofu*. Excessive wasabi is definitely the way to go ! I do disagree with feeding your pets that way but it's totally your decision :).
AAAhhhh Sushi !!! I remember how good they where, so wish I was there too *pout* }:P
Have fun ! };) | |
